ESI has published recommendations for the Programme for Government highlighting the benefits of energy storage to Ireland’s energy security, electricity prices and decarbonisation targets. By supporting energy storage Ireland can enable more renewable electricity on the grid, reduce our reliance on imported fossil fuels and our exposure to volatile gas commodity prices while significantly lowering our carbon emissions.
Ireland has over 1 GW of battery storage operational today, which is a huge success story, but we can go a lot further with the right support to enable a secure, indigenous carbon-free electricity system.
We look forward to working with the next Oireachtas on delivering Ireland’s climate action targets and enabling a secure, carbon-free electricity system.
