Sam Harden – Chairperson of Energy Storage Ireland
Sam is an experienced business development professional in the renewables sector and chairperson of Energy Storage Ireland.
Focusing on system flexibility and storage for 8 years, Sam has led the development of over 100 MW of battery energy storage projects that are either in construction or operation today.
He began his career at Centrica, spending several years in roles across the generation, trading and customer arms of the business.
It was this whole energy value chain perspective that eventually sparked Sam’s motivation to lead the company’s first ventures into battery storage, recognising the critical role that flexible capacity would need to play in supporting the clean energy transition.
Sam went on to further develop his technical and international experience at a leading storage system integrator based in Berlin, where he was responsible for several projects in new markets across Europe.
Sam now leads the business development activities of RWE Renewables in Ireland. This includes the recently announced 60 MW battery storage project in Monaghan, due to start construction in Q2 2020.
As Chairperson of Energy Storage Ireland, he is especially motivated by the important role the energy storage industry must play in supporting growth of renewable generation, therefore being crucial to achieving Ireland’s carbon reduction targets.
